The
Spring Garden: The Complete English and Scottish Country
Dance Master for Recorders, Book 1, is now available
from Mel Bay Publishing.
The book features over 40 of O'Scannell's 2,3, and 4
part arrangements for recorders (and other instruments).
Since the pieces were used in actual performance, they
are a rare collection of recorder-friendly settings of
this popular genre.
O'Scannell
maintains a narrative throughout the book, providing
a through-line, as well as many useful hints about style
and technique, based on her over 25 years as a professional
recorder player.
The
following books in the series to be published consecutively
will be another Country Dance book, this time continental,
another Scottish and English collection, and a collection
of renaissance Courtly Dance arrangements. Be looking
for these books to appear on the shelves over the next
several years; there will be an acknowledgement on the
